On Prem, PBCS, EPBCS: Questions Answered

On Prem, PBCS, EPBCS

Here are some frequently asked questions:

Q 1.  Can we create multiple applications?
Ans:  In On Prem you can create as many applications as you want, but in case of PBCS/EPBCS, it's limited to One application per environment. If you want more you may have to buy a new pod, per app.

Q 2: How many environments we will get?
Ans: In On Prem, you can have any many environments as you want. Typically, Dev, Test/QA, Prod. However, Oracle provides two instances Dev and Prod.

Q 3: Can I delete application in PBCS/EPBCS environment or we need to reach out to Oracle?
Ans:  Yes, you can delete application and create a new one yourself.

Q 4:  What options are available for metadata integrations?
Ans: For On Prem: FDMEE, metadata integration offered for EBS, People soft etc., Outline Load, ODI Adapter for planning, EPMA, Smart View Admin Extension.
For PBCS/EPBCS: EPM Automate Utility, Smart View Admin Extension

Q 5: What options are available for Data Integration in PBCS/EPBCS?

Ans: We have Oracle Identity and Access Management. For more info: https://www.oracle.com/middleware/identity-management/resources.html

Q 8: My client is buying PBCS, do they still need admins?
Ans: Oracle is going to apply patches, perform nightly backup, but its up to us to verifiy if those patches are applied right or if nightly backup went fine. So you need them for these two reasons apart from regular maintenance activities

Q 9: Can I still access Essbase If i am on PBCS/EPBCS?
Ans: No, EAS is not there any more, you can still see caches and sessions.

Q10: Can I restart services or kill business rules?

Q11: Is it mandatory to write all business rules in Graphical Mode?
Ans: No, you can write them in classic was as well. Ruby is on the way!

Q16: How many additional custom cube I can create?
Ans: Apart from OOB Model, you can create 3 custom BSO Plan Types and Unlimited ASO, but remember you have limited space on the server

Q17: What is the amount of space allocated for my application?
Ans: Including backups (inbox/outbox) and application size, it can grow up to 150gb

Q18: What is Inbox/Outbox folder?
Ans: It's like a folder which is accessible via cloud portal or automate, a wormhole, a gateway which will let you access cloud files. Whenever you take import or export of data/metadata, take a LCM backup etc.  you have an option to store most of contents  on the Inbox/Outbox folder or on your local machine. Its more like import export folder on On-Prem. If you want to automate any job using EPMAutomate, you have to use Inbox/Outbox folder.

Q19: What is EPMAutomate?
Ans: Its a new powerful utlitiy which is a blend of Outlineline Load utility, a bit of essmsh and something totally new. You can update dimensions, schedule backups, update/create sub vars etc using EPMAutomate. Fore more details:

Q20: As the licensing is user based, any I have many users using the same ID?
Ans: First of all it's ethically not right, if you get caught, I don't have to state the consequences. Moreover, in cloud, you can pull a detailed application usage report with user's access time and  IP address. When you can do that, can you imagine what Oracle can pull.

I will keep adding more general information and specific questions to FS, WF, etc, modules in upcoming blog post.
