Essbase Studio: Loading Text and Date

Oracle Essbase Studio is a single environment to simplify the construction and administration of Essbase applications. Essbase Studio provides a single interface for performing tasks related to data modeling, cube design, and construction of analytic applications. Essbase Studio provides a consistent platform for building outlines and loading data by consolidating cube construction activities into one interface.

Here we will be discussing how to load Text and Date values from a relational database into an Essbase Cube using Essbase Studio.


1. Create tables in Relational database or use an existing database for warehouse table, here we will be using a fresh one:



2. Load the data in SQL tables:


3. Login to Essbase Studio and go to File->New->Data Source


4. Enter  the name and password to connect to the Sql tables



5.Click Test Connection


6. Select the table from available tables and pull it to tables in data source and click "Next"

  


7. Create new schema diagram and click "Next"


8. Pull the table from right hand side to left hand side and click "Next"





9. Select the available source objects and click "Finish"



10. Now the created data source can be seen in the data source navigator






11. Pull the dimensions from data source navigator (right hand side) to metadata navigator (left hand side)



12. Create new folder  i.e. "Hierarchies", "Cube Schemas" and "Drill through Reports" by right click on NewDS->New->Folder



13. Create new text list by right click DimProject->New->Text List



14. Enter the name and drag Manager name(string) in value binding and ProjectID (numeric) in ID binding and click "Apply" and "Ok"




15. Create new derived text measures by right click DimProject->New->Derived Text Measures


16.Enter the name and drag the ProjectID in expression




17. Click on "+" for adding another row




18.Enter the value range From and To and any Label Name and click "Apply" and "Ok"





19.Create new hierarchy by right click Hierarchies->New->Hierarchy



20.Enter the name and click on "Add Child"





21.Select child from the dragged dimension elements under DimProject and click "Ok"



22.Click "Save" and then"Close"





23.Create new Cube Schema by right click Cube Schema->New->Cube Schema



24. Enter the name and drag the created hierarchy in "Hierarchies" and remaining members  in Measures Hierarchy and click "Next"




25.Click on "create Essbase model" and then "Finish"



26.You can see the created cube schema in the center portion





27. Click on created cube schema and edit "Essbase Properties"



28.Click on the Manager member in Accounts for associating the created text list with this member and click "Typed Measures"




29.Select the text list created before and click "Apply" and then "Close"



30. At the time of closing you will get this error Click "No"





31.Now right click on the created model for "Cube Deployment Wizard"



32.Select the server connection and Application and Database created in Essbase and then click "Next"




33.Select "Build outline and load data" and "Overrite Existing data" and click "Finish"



34.You can see the deploying cube in progress





35.After deploying get the message that cube deployed successfully and click "Ok"


36.Deployed cube can be seen in the Essbase





37.Can see the text list created in "Text List Manager"



38. Loaded text and date Data can be previewed in "Preview Data"
